Tips for Chain Sling Assembly
- Single Leg Sling
If the required measurement falls in the middle of a link, the next link is cut. - Double Leg Sling (when assembling a clevis system sling)
Cut chain to length and count the links. You must have an even number of links so hooks hang in the correct plane. (Hooks should always point out as shown in diagrams.) - Triple or Quadruple Length Sling (when assembling a clevis system sling)
Cut chain to length and count the links. You must have an odd number of links so hooks hang in the correct plane. (Hooks should always point out as shown in dagrams.) If the measurement falls int he middle of a link the next link is cut. - A metal I.D. Tag must always be attached to a chain sling, showing serial number, size, reach, rated capacity at angle of lift and manufacturer.
- The reach of the sling is the length measured from the load bearing surface of the master link to the load bearing surface of the hook or lower terminal
(as shown in diagrams). - Each sling manufactured shall have a completed certificate of test provided to user.
